In the name of God Amen I James Whitchurch Citizen and Apothecary of London Doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament, and First I doe most willingly resigne my soule into the hands of Almighty God in hopes and full assureance of a free remission of my sins and an happy enjoyment of Everlasting life through his mercy and the alone merits of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ, and I doe desire that my body may bee decently buryed at the discretion of my Executor, and as to my estate reall and personal wherewith God hath beene pleased to blesse me, I give and dispose of the same in manner following, and first I doe give and bequeath unto my eldest sonn Ralph all my estate stock and Interest which at the time of my decease I shall have in the East India Company London Item I give unto my said eldest Sonne his Executors and Administrators all those my two Messuages situate in Old Fishstreete in London, and alsoe all those my two Messuages with their appurtenances situate in Kingstreete London Item I doe farther give unto my said eldest sonne the sume of Twelve hundred pounds of lawfull English money to be paid unto him within the space of one yeare after my decease, or sooner if the same can bee conveniently raised Item I give unto my sonne James All that house in which I now dwell with the appurtenances thereof, and all my estate and Interest in the same To have and to hold the same immediately after the decease of my Brother Edward Whitchurch and not before, And alsoe all that my Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances thereof situate in Wallbrook in London together with all my estate and Interest in the same, And alsoe all those my three Messuages with their appurtenances situate in East Smithfield in London. Item I give unto my said sonne James the sume of Eighteen hundred pounds of lawfull English money to bee paid unto him his Executors Administrators or Assignes within one yeare after my decease. Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth now the wife of Mr. John Loddington the sume of Tenn pounds to buy her a piece of plate. Item I give unto my Daughter Sarah the sume of Eighteene hundred pounds of lawfull English money to bee paid unto her at her of Twenty one years or day of marriage, which shall first happen, And farther my mind and will is that out of the Interest and profits of the said Eighteene hundred pounds until the same shall become payable as aforesaid, my Executor shall keepe and maintaine my said Daughter Sarah. Item I give unto James Loddington and Elizabeth Loddington Children of my said sonne in Law Mr John Loddington each of them the sume of one hundred pounds of Lawfull English money to bee paid within one yeare after my Decease. Item I give unto my Brothers and their wifes, that is to say to each of them one golden Ring of the value of Twenty shillings each Ring, Item I give unto all my Brothers and Sisters Children one golden ring a piece of the value of tenn shillings each ring; Item I give unto my God daughter Bridgett Smith the Daughter of Bridgett Smith who was formerly my maid Servant the sume of Tenn pounds to bee paid into the hands of her Father or Mother within six Months after my decease Item I give unto all my Children and to my said Sonn in Law and to my Executor and Servants mourning at my Executors discretion, Item Whereas severall Legacyes were by the Last Will of my Mother in Law Mrs Alice Cant, given unto my Four Children my Will and Desire is that such and soe much of the said respective Legacyes as shall remaine unpaid at my decease may be respectively paid according to the purpose and true intent of the said will Item as to my said now Dwelling house, my Will is (illegible for several words) during his life (illegible for several words) Brother Edward Whitchurch Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament And I do give unto him all the residue and Remainder of my Goods Chattells Debts Mortgages and personal(?) estate whatsoever after my Funerall charges Debts and Legacyes paid and discharged And I doe hereby revoake all former and other Wills at any time by me made And I doe publish and declare this to bee my last Will and Testament made this Twenty fourth Day of July in the yeare of our Lord God one Thousand six hundred Eighty Eight. This is a Codicill to bee annexed To the last Will and Testament of me James Whitchurch Citizen and Apothecary of London which I will shall bee taken as parte thereof viz.
Whereas in and by my last Will and Testament made and bearing Date the twenty fourth day of July in the yeare of our Lord God one Thousand six hundred Eighty Eight amongst other things therein contained I did give unto my eldest sonne Ralph the sume of Twelve hundred pounds of Lawfull English money to bee paid unto him within the space of one yeare after my decease or sooner if the same can bee conveniently raised And I did thereby alsoe give unto my sonne James the sume of Eighteene hundred pounds of lawfull English money to bee paid unto him his Executors Administrators or Assigns within one yeare after my decease And I did thereby alsoe give to my Daughter Sarah the sume of Eighteene hundred pounds of lawfull English money to bee paid unto her at her age of Twenty one yeares or day of marriage which should first happen and my mind and will is in the said last Will and Testament expressed to bee that out of the Interest and profits of the said Eighteene hundred pounds until the same should become payable as aforesaid my Executor should keepe and maintaine my said Daughter Sarah as by the said last Will and Testament relative thereto being had amongst (?) other things therein containing more plainly and at large it doth and may appeare And whereas I have since the making of the said Will paid to my said eldest sonne the said Ralph the sume of Twelve hundred pounds of lawfull money of England in full payment and satisfaction of the said sume of Twelve hundred pounds to him given or intended to bee given in and by my said will and have alsoe paid to my said sonne James the said sume of eighteene hundred pounds of lawfull money of England in full payment and satisfaction of the said sume of eighteene hundred pounds to him given or intended to bee given in and by my said will And whereas my said Daughter Sarah hath lately intermarried with one Mr Hamond LeStrange without the advice or consent of mee or her Friends(?) (illegible) a settlement or provision made for her Now I doe in and (illegible) my Codicill revoake disannul and (?) make voyd the said (illegible) and respective gifts or Legacyes of (illegible) hundred pounds, Eighteene (illegible for several words) of the Interest and profits of the said eighteene hundred (illegible for several words) given or intended to bee given to my said Daughter Sarah (illegible for several words) thereof, hereby (illegible) and Declareing that the said severall and respective gifts Legacyes and Truste of money in and by my said Will given to my said sonnes and Daughter or to or for any of their (illegible) shall cease(?) Determine(?) and bee utterly voyd and not bee paid or payable by my Executor named in my said Will the said Last Will and Testament or any matter (?) word or thing therein contained mentioned Declared or expressed to the contrary thereof in any wise Notwithstanding And I doe hereby give and bequeath the said sume of Eighteene hundred pounds which was in and by my said Will given or intended to bee given to the said Sarah as aforesaid and the Interest and profits of the same to my Loving Brother Edward Whitchurch my Executor named in my said Will Upon this Trust and confidence in him reposed that hee the said Edward Whitchurch his Executors or Administrators shall lay out and Dispose of the same Eighteene hundred pounds in the purchase of such Lands or Tenements as hee or they shall think fit, when and soe soone as he or they can conveniently get or procure such purchase to his or their satisfaction, And that the said Lands or Tenaments soe to bee purchased shall bee purchased and the Conveyance and Conveyancer thereof made and taken in the name of him the said Edward Whitchurch his heires Executors or Administrators or in the name or names of such person or persons as hee or they shall think fit To the end intent and purpose, that the same may bee conveyed settled and assured by the Advice of the (illegible) in the Law of the said Edward Whitchurch his Executors or Administrators soe and in such manner as that the same Lands or Tenaments and the rents issues and profits thereof may get and bee to and for the support livelihood and separate mainteynance of my said daughter Sarah and for that purpose to bee paid to such person or persons from time to time as shee by any writing or writings under her hand shall direct or appoint during the joynt lives of them the said Hamond Lestrange and Sarah and soe as that the said Hamond Lestrange may have not control Interest or disposition thereof or therein and from and after his Decease, to her the said Sarah during the Terme of her natural life, and from and immediately after her decease to get and bee to such child or children as shee shall have of her body Lawfully begotten, and the heires of the body and bodyes of such child or children lawfully to bee begotten, and for want of such issue, to or to the use of the right heires of the said Sarah for ever And my will is that in case the said Hamond Lestrange and Sarah his wife or other of them their or either of their Executors or Administrators (?) Assigne(?) sue for challenge or Demand any parte or parcel share or Interest of in or to my personal estate as comeing accrewing or belonging to the said Sarah by the Custome of London or otherwise (illegible) other then and excepting only of in and to the Lands and (illegible) purchased as aforesaid (?) and subject and according (illegible) intent, and purposes before in this my Codicill annexed (illegible) that then and in such case the said gift Legacy or bequest of Eighteene hundred pounds soe given hereby to the said Edward (completely illegible for several lines) Lastly as to all other matters and things in my said Last Will and Testament contained which are not by mee herein or (illegible) or made voyd I doe hereby ratifie and confirme the same In Witness whereof I the said James Whitchurch the Testator have to this (?)
