In the name of God Amen I Edward Whitchurch Citizen and Ironmonger of London being in perfect mind and memory and in good health of body (blessed be God) upon consideration of my mortality Doe this eleventh Day of August Anno D— 1692 And in the fourth yeare of the reigne of our Soveraigne Lord and Lady William and Mary by the grace of God King and Queen of England Scotland France and Ireland Defenders of the Faith xi make and declare this my last Will and Testament concerning all my Estate whatsoever reall and personal in manner following (that is to say) Imprimis I give and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Lodington wife of Mr John Lodington the summe of Fifteen hundred pounds of lawfull money of England Item I give and bequeath to my niece Sarah Lestrange wife of Mr Hamond Lestrange the summe of Five hundred pounds of lawfull money of England Item I give and bequeath to my sister Alice Whitchurch widow relict of my late brother Samuel Whitchurch deceased the summe of tenn pounds of lawfull money of England for mourning To my Cousin William Whitchurch junr and his wife twenty pounds of like money for mourning To my cousin Joane Raynsford tenn pounds of like money for mourning And to my brother Leonard Whitchurch and his wife twenty pounds of like money for mourning Item I give and bequeath to John Fothe(?) of London Esqr twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to buy him a ring Item I give and bequeath to John Cray Five pounds of lawfull money of England Item I give towards the building St Pauls Church in London the summe of tenn pounds of lawfull money of England Item I give and bequeath to my nephew Jonathan Whitchurch son of my said late brother Samuel Whitchurch a Chattle Lease of my ground called Childmead in Somersettshire And all my Estate right title and interest of in and to the same And whereas there is one acre of ground more or lesse lying within the said ground called Childmead purchased of one Mrs Champnis of Orchardly (or which was sometime in her occupation or belonging to her) by my father Samuel Whitchurch and by him devised to me I give devise and bequeath the same acre of ground to my said nephew Jonathan Whitchurch and to his right heires for ever And my will is that the Legacyes given by this my Will shall be paid within one yeare after my decease And all the rest and residue of my goods chattels moneys lands tenements hereditaments and Estate reall and personal whatsoever after my Debts Funerall Expences and Legacyes shall be discharged and paid I give and bequeath to my nephews Ralph Whitchurch and James Whitchurch of London merchants sons of my said brother James Whitchurch to be equally divided between them Which said Ralph Whitchurch and James Whitchurch my nephews I doe make and ordaine Executors of this my last Will and Testament And I doe hereby revoke and make void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In wittnesse whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale and doe hereby publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament the Day and yeare first above written / Edw: Whitchurch Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Edward Whitchurch the Testator in the presence of us whose names are underwritten and who have subscribed the same in the presence of the said Testator Tho: Gibson Tho: Pattinson Richard Blomine(?) This is a Codicill to be annexed to the last Will and Testament of me Edward Whitchurch Citizen and Ironmonger of London and which I will shall be taken as part thereof.
Whereas by my said last Will which beared Date the Eleaventh Day of August Anno — 1692 I have given and bequeathed to my niece Elizabeth Lodington wife of Mr John Lodington the summe of Fifteen hundred pounds of lawfull money of England I doe hereby give my said niece Elizabeth Lodington the further summe of Nine hundred pounds of like lawfull money of England And whereas by the same Will I have given and bequeathed to my niece Sarah Lestrange wife of Mr Hamond Lestrange the summe of five hundred pounds of lawfull money of England I doe hereby revoke the said Legacy of five hundred pounds and I doe hereby devise and bequeath the summe of Fourteen hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to my nephews Ralph Whitchurch and James Whitchurch upon trust that they and the Survivors of them and the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor doe and shall during the joynt lives of the said Hamond Lestrange and Sarah his wife place out and continue upon security at interest in the namze of the said Ralph Whitchurch and James Whitchurch or the Survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor the said summe of Fourteen hundred pounds and doe and shall pay the interest and proceed thereof from time to time as the same shall be received to and for the use and benefit of the said Sarah the wife of the said Hamon Lestrange during the joynt lives of the said Hamon Lestrange and Sarah And that her Acquittance shall be a good discharge for the same And my Will further is that in case my said niece Sarah shall depart this Life leaving issue a Child or Children of her body begotten by the said Hamon Lestrange living Then the said Summe of Fourteen hundred pounds and the interest and proceed thereof shall be paid and disposed of to such Child or Children equally amongst them And my Will further is that in case either of them the said Hamon Lestrange and Sarah his wife shall depart this life leaving no issue of their two bodies begotten living then the said Summe of Fourteen hundred pounds shall be paid and disposed of to and for the use and benefit of the Survivor of them the said Hamon Lestrange and Sarah his wife and the Executors and Administrators of such Survivor And my Will also is that in case any losse shall happen either of the said Fourteen hundred pounds or of the interest or proceed thereof either by being lent out on a bad security or by lying dead or otherwise and not willfully occasioned the said Ralph Whitchurch and James Whitchurch their Executors or Administrators shall not be accountable for the same nor shall either of them the said Ralph Whitchurch or James Whitchurch their Executors or Administrators be accountable for the acts or defaults of the other of them Item I give and bequeath to my loving brother Leonard Whitchurch the summe of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England and to my sister Alice Whitchurch the summe of tenn pounds of like lawfull money over and above what I gave them in my said will Item I give to my Cousin Alice Boyse tenn pounds of lawfull money of England And to the poor of St John’s parish in London fifty pounds of like lawfull money In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale and doe hereby publish and declare this to be a further part of my last Will and Testament this First day of November Anno D— 1693 Edw: Whitchurch Signed Sealed Published and Declared by Edward Whitchurch the Testator as a further part of his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names in his presence Eliz.
