Gould, Mabella 1741

In the Name of God Amen I Mabella Gould of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex being of a Sound and disposing mind memory and Understanding and being willing to dispose of all my worldly Estate and Effects to my mind after my Death do make constitute and appoint this my last Will and Testament Whereas by Virtue of the last Will and Testament of my late loving cousin Samuel Whitchurch Esquire deceased I am entituled to a considerable Sume of money in case William Whitchurch Nephew to my said late cousin Samuel Whitchurch shall happen to dye before he attains the age of one and Twenty years—– my Will is and I hereby give Devise and bequeath the same whenever (if ever) such contingency shall happen unto my good and loving friend Charles Hudson Captain of the Ship Prince of Orange Gent. and his Heirs Executors administrators and assigns for evermore together with all my Right Tithe Interest property claim and Demand whatsoever of in and to the contingency aforesaid and all and all manner of benefits and advantage whatsoever thereof and likewise all and all manner of benefit and advantage of the said last Will and Testament of my said late cousin Sam: Whitchurch to and for his and their own whole and sole proper use and behoof and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever and I likewise give devise and bequeath to the said Charles Hudson his Executors administrators and assigns all my present Estate and Effects of any kind whatsoever to and for his and their own proper use and behoof in the same manner as the contingency hereinbefore is devised and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever and I likewise hereby make constitute and appoint the said Charles Hudson whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Day of

8th July 1741

On which Day appeared personally Sarah Hubbard wife of Edward Hubbard of the parish of Saint Dunstan in the West London Carpenter and Susan Pearce Wife of John Pearce of the Parish of Christ Church London Dyer whou being severally sworn on the —– Evangelists to Depose the Truth did jointly and severally say and Depose as followeth to wit that they and Each of them know and were well acquainted with Mabella Gould late of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex Spinster having so known her for several years last past and to the time of her Death and have frequently seen her write and thereby they are each of them became well acquainted with her manner and character of handwriting and having now carefully viewed and perused the last Will and Testament or Testamentary schedule of the said deceased hereunto annexed beginning thus In the Name of God Amen I Mabella Gould of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex and ending thus In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Day of They and each of them did jointly and severally say and depose that they do verily believe the said last Will and Testament or Testamentary Schedule to be totally wrote by and with the proper hand of the said Mabella Gould deceased Sarah Hubbard…Susanna Pearce…same Day the said Sarah Hubbard and Susan Pearce were duly sworn to the Truth of the premises before me Robt. Chapman Surrogate present Rr.Altham Notary Publick.

One the Eighth Day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and forty one  a power was granted to —– Whitbread the lawful attorney of Charles Hudson the sole Executor named in the last Will and Testament of Mabella Gould late of the parish of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex spinster deceased to administer the Goods Chattells and Credits of the said deceased according to the Tenor of the said Will for the use and benefit of the said Charles Hudson now Captain of the Ship Prince of Orange in the service of the Honorable East India Company being first sworn duly to administer the same.

    There are some indications that this side of the family may have been dissenters/non-conformists; this may explain why few, if any, records have been found for any of them. Mabella has not been placed on the tree; it is speculated that Samuel, William, and John’s mother Elizabeth was a Gould and that Mabella was the daughter of her brother George. Unfortunately, without any records to back up this theory, not even a marriage record between the brothers’ parents John and Elizabeth, it remains speculation at this point.

    Mabella’s name appears in at least one litigation proceeding regarding Nunney (see List of Litigations on this site). Further research of that litigation may reveal clues to her specific place in the family tree.
